Samples required

Clotted blood (red cap preferred, NO SEPARATOR GEL, 6 mL tube).

Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples.

Please contact Biochemistry for gel-free red-top clotted tubes if there are no supplies in your area.

 

Take sample pre-dose after 3 - 5 days (oral or IV).

Test indications

Monitoring of patients on voriconazole.

Reference range

The voriconazole trough concentration should be maintained above 1.0 mg/L. Outcomes for bulky or disseminated infections are better when concentrations are >2.0 mg/L.

Concentrations above 6.0 mg/L are more likely to lead to liver toxicity. Concentrations above 10.0 mg/L should be avoided.

Referral lab quotes turnaround time of <1 day, however additional time must be allowed for packing, dispatch and delivery of sample, and return and processing of results.
